Kenya Railways has announced an extra Madaraka Express passenger train service to cater for the high travel demand on Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15, 2025.
This strategic move is aimed at easing passenger congestion along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) route, especially as holidaymakers and business travelers seek comfortable and efficient intercity transport options.
Details of the Additional Service
The newly scheduled Madaraka Express trains will operate as follows:
- Friday, November 14, 2025:
An extra train will depart from Mombasa at 09:45 AM, stopping at Voi at 11:21 AM, departing by 11:26 AM, and arriving in Nairobi at 3:48 PM. - Saturday, November 15, 2025:
The additional train will leave Nairobi at 09:45 AM, reach Voi by 1:35 PM, depart Voi at 1:40 PM, and conclude its trip in Mombasa at 3:36 PM.​

- Passengers must present a valid ID during ticket purchase and boarding.
- Children under 3 years travel free, those aged 3-11 pay half fare (only one child per adult qualifies for half fare, others pay full fare).
- Alcoholic drinks and pets are strictly prohibited on board and within stations.
- Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours before travel (30% fee applies); rescheduling is allowed once (for a 10% fee), subject to seat availability.
- Lost tickets can be reissued after verification, with a 30% fee.
