Choppies, formally Ukwala is a supermarkets chain in Kenya .

The story of choppies began in February 2015 when they opened the first Superstore outlets in Kisumu Region, with 5 branches thereby spreading out to open more branches in Bungoma and Kericho.

Other additional branches were opened in Nakuru and Nairobi and  Kisii .

In January 2008, Choppies Kenya’s first flagship outlet, – a Hyper store, was opened in the Nairobi Embakasi location, with plans of opening more branches currently underway.

Choppies Kenya began with few service departments and within the short span of time, tremendous growth has been experienced by the diversity of broader service department offering from Butchery, Garden fresh Fruits and Vegetables, Bakery, Deli- Hot &Freshly prepared food variety, Choppies Fried Chicken (CFC) and Monetary services.

2.Tusky’s Supermarket

Tusky’s is one off the most well-known supermarket chains in Kenya. In fact, with the demise of Nakumatt, Tuskys seem to have expanded to most towns and suburbs in Kenya. It arguably the largest supermarket in Kenya.

The story of Tuskys’s begins with one Mzee Joram Kamau who in 1985 begun a store in Rongai in Nakuru Country. His vision was to enable customers to ‘pay less, and get more’. Over time he formed a great bond with the founder of Nakuru Mattresses (know the default Nakumatt) and this would enable him grow his business.

With the desire to grow, he left his first store to his brother to open a store called Tusker Mattress. This would with dedication and hard work, grow to what today we know as Tusky’s. The store he left to his brother would latter grow to what is now Naivas supermarket.

Naivas supermarket is one of the largest supermarket in Kenya. I have already told you how this chain of supermarkets begun in Rongai.

9. Foodplus Chandarana

Foodplus Chandarana chain of supermarkets started in 1964, as a single grocery store, operated by the family, the late entrepreneur Shantilal Mulji Thakkar, with twelve employees. Over the years the business has expanded to more than a dozen stores in major urban centers in Kenya. Three of the founder’s sons, Anil Thakkar, Sanjay Thakkar and Dipan Thakkar, run the enterprise.

Cleanshelf Supermarket is a retail chain that was established and run in Kenya in the year 2002 and has been in operation ever since.

At Cleanshelf Supermarket, they pride themselves in continuously adapting to the numerous changes in the retail industry. That has made them able to open 7 branches with more coming.

These is one branch I like frequenting to near may residence. And as the name suggests, they are orderly and neat. As the say Shop for more, pay for less.
