    Safaricom launches Lipa Na Mpesa App for Businesses

    Safaricom today has announced a Lipa na Mpesa app for businesses that will be used by over 170,000 merchants. Named “M-Pesa for Business, this app will be used by business owners to get in real-time statements, export reports, and track their business performance.

    Business owners will be able to withdraw funds from Lipa na Mpesa Business smartphone to their individual Mpesa accounts, bank accounts, or at the agent shops. Their businesses can also send money to Mpesa customers for transactions such as paying for supplies and paying wages.

    Speaking to the media, Safaricom’s CEO Peter Ndegwa said, “At Safaricom, we are taking a focus on the needs of small and medium businesses to provide them with suitable technology solutions to help them grow. The M-PESA for Business smartphone App is one such solution. It empowers more than 170,000 businesses across the country to send money and make payments and provides them with simple and detailed reports from the convenience of the mobile phone.”

    The app offers additional management features such as overview of different tills to business owners with multiple outlets and till usage management. The app also comes with rich and detailed reports including charts, store overview and frequently used Lipa na Mpesa tills and pay bills.

    Users can download the “M-PESA for Business” App on android Google play store immediately, however; the app will be available for users of iOS App Store in the near future.

    To get the Lipa na Mpesa Till, you will need to go to and make an application. The “M-PESA for Business” app will be immediately available to businesses once their application is processed and a Till Number allocated to them.

    The Lipa na Mpesa till complements the *234# menu which has been providing Lipa Na M-PESA merchants with the ability to manage their tills and to make necessary transactions.

    The ‘Lipa na Mpesa till app is designed to take advantage of unique smartphone capabilities to provide businesses with powerful, additional features and a digital, modern way to use the service.
