Fuliza is barely two weeks old and it is already lending billions of shillings to Kenyans. According to this article, the Safaricom’s overdraft facility has already lend 1.5 billion shillings in just 10days.
And as days go on, it seems that within a month, Fuliza will
have registered up to 10 million users, the first million having registered on
the first day after launch.
What is Fuliza?
Fuliza launched on January 7 after approval from the Central
Bank of Kenya. It is a partnership between Safaricom and Commercial Bank of
Africa (CBA) and is open to all active Safaricom users. Concisely, Fuliza is an
overdraft facility that allows you to continue using Mpesa Services even when you
have run out of money.
You can access the facility by dialing *234# or if you are using a smartphone, you can access it on My Safaricom App.
On your phone, go to
My Safaricom App Menu. Go to Mpesa and find the Fuliza link.
How to use Fuliza
By dialing * 234# or going to Fuliza link on your smartphone, you should be able to know you credit limit, which is based on Mpesa transactions. The more transactions you do on Mpesa, the higher your credit limit.
Once you opted in and know your loan limit, you can then
borrow as many times as possible within this limit.
This just a kind of ‘Okoa Jahazi’ but instead of working on the
usual credit top-ups, it is working on Mpesa. Anytime you run out of cash on
Mpesa and need to do a transaction, you can run to Fuliza for help.
How do I qualify for Fuliza?
To qualify, you need to;
Must be an Mpesa customer.
Be active on Mpesa for at least 6months.
Transact often on Mpesa, this gives you a higher loan Limit.
What are the transactions fees?
Just like any other loan facility, the service attracts 1%
access fee apart from the normal Mpesa transaction fees.
In addition, there is maintenance fee on any outstanding balances
as shown below.
Band
Tariff
0-100
One-time fee of KES 2

1001-1500
KES 20 per day
1501-2500

How do I pay?
If you been using Okoa
Jahazi, you are too aware of how Safaricom recovers their money. As soon as
you top up, the money is deducted.
Safaricom will recover their funds from you as soon as you
deposit money into your Mpesa wallet. This means that if you intending not to
pay soon, then you are better of not using Mpesa services.
Moreover, if you do not pay within 30 days, you cannot use
the Fuliza limit and you can only be reinstated to the service after paying outstanding
loans.
Finally, is yet to be seen if other mobile companies will
follow suit and give Kenyans a better deal.

Tusky’s is one off the most well-known supermarket chains in Kenya. In fact, with the demise of Nakumatt, Tuskys seem to have expanded to most towns and suburbs in Kenya. It arguably the largest supermarket in Kenya.
The story of Tuskys’s begins with
one Mzee Joram Kamau who in 1985 begun a store in Rongai in Nakuru Country. His
vision was to enable customers to ‘pay less, and get more’. Over time he formed
a great bond with the founder of Nakuru Mattresses (know the default Nakumatt)
and this would enable him grow his business.
With the desire to grow, he left his
first store to his brother to open a store called Tusker Mattress. This would
with dedication and hard work, grow to what today we know as Tusky’s. The store
he left to his brother would latter grow to what is now Naivas supermarket.

9. Foodplus Chandarana
Foodplus Chandarana chain of supermarkets started in 1964, as a single grocery store, operated by the family, the late entrepreneur Shantilal Mulji Thakkar, with twelve employees. Over the years the business has expanded to more than a dozen stores in major urban centers in Kenya. Three of the founder’s sons, Anil Thakkar, Sanjay Thakkar and Dipan Thakkar, run the enterprise.
The supermarket sells food items, including in-house butcheries, bakeries, wine and spirits sections, fresh vegetables and sandwich shops. They have stayed away from big ticket manufactured items, such as radios, televisions, refrigerators and cookers. Also, the chain does not maintain warehouses; the suppliers deliver merchandise/produce directly to the store that they supply.[

Jumia Kenya has been sending messages to sellers informing
them of the change. Sellers had up to December 30, 2018 to make the switch.
Jumia Kenya will however pay through Bank transfers and mobile money. This according to the company this will reduce the time it takes for sellers to have their money after selling on the platform.
Here is the message.
As technology develops and more business functions are being moved online, cheques are dropping in popularity. Jumia is no exception in this shift. From the 1st of January 2019 will NOT use cheques as a method of payment for sellers.

Airtel Kenya subscribers are still
counting loses incurred during the festive period after Airtel airtime top-up vouchers
failed to work.
The service outage affected airtime in customers’ phones and daily bundles, with some customers who spoke to Shop in Kenya saying that they lost up to 100GB of data.
“Consumer complaints have gone on
deaf ears, Airtel Kenya services went off from 1700 hours 30-12 2018 yet no
apologies from them, they only respond to a computer generated script.” said a
subscriber
Another disgruntled customer said, ‘in
my case I have lost 100GB of daily data another 56GB and the last one
was probably 46GB as per their complaint receipts.”
Customer complaints were met with a
computer generated message, which read, “C18279419
has been logged in with us and expected resolution date is 01-01-2019,”
The service provider, which is the
second largest in the country, responded to subscribers on its social media
platform with a message that felt robotic, according to customers.
However, this is how Airtel customer
care responded, “We have identified the issue affecting airtime vouchers and
are working to resolve it as soon as possible. We apologize for the
inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience,” responded Airtel
customer care representatives.
Customer complaints
Despite complaints from customers,
Airtel seem to have gone silent on the issue. Here is a screenshot of its Facebook
page with lots of people complaining.
The overwhelmed customer care
representatives simply advised the customers to recharge from Airtel Money or
Pesapal, there seemed to be no other alternative.
By yesterday, New Year’s Day, customers were still flocking to Airtel’s social media platforms and all they could get in response was a requirement to inbox their details for their issues to be sorted.

All you need to do is to activate your Telkom line with Ksh. 50. And there after enjoy free Telkom to Telkom calls. Amer Atwi added that, “One does not need to subscribe to a specific offer or bundle to enjoy the Telkom Free Zones.
