Coast Bus: Booking, Destinations and Contacts

0

In the recent past, I have been writing a lot about bus bookings in Kenya. Today I am going to write about Coast bus and how to book online (because that is likely, what you are looking for.)

In case you missed it, you can read about the following bus companies and learn how to book your ticket online.

Each of the links above will take you to pages of other bus companies that you may want to consider if you are traveling.

Having said that, let us delve deeper and understand Coast Bus.

So who are coast bus?

This bus believes in its slogan, ‘that they lead and others follow.’

I do not know whether this is the literally or not. However, what I know is the fact that it is a major player in the transport industry in Kenya. Apart from offering passenger service, the also offer care hire and courier services.

Coast Bus Destinations

Just like most bus companies in Kenya, they specialize on certain routes. Let us have a look.

From MOMBASA they operate to

  • Nairobi
  • Kisumu
  • Kitui
  • Kakamega
  • Bungoma.

As seen, they operate from their base in Mombasa to the listed town and cities in Kenya.

Here is how their schedule looks like.

From the schedule above, it should be noted that, the company has 4 bus types, that is Coast Air, Executive, AC Class and Mwananchi.

Where there is a dash in the schedule, it means that no bus services are available.

Booking

Though they say they ‘lead while others follow’, Coast Bus has no online booking portal (Though most bus companies in Kenya have not embraced online booking). This to me seems to be the downside of this bus company that markets itself as a leader in the transport industry.

Booking links on its website are not working and to make matters worse, the site does not provide information about bookings.

So what should you do?

Seemingly, there are two options here. Firstly, you have to visit its offices physically to make a booking. The other option is to call and again place your booking.

I have labored to get you the contacts that you can use to book your ride.

How does it feel like to travel on Coast Bus?

Unfortunately, I have not had firsthand experience traveling on Coast Bus. The closer I have come close to the bus is when I tried booking from Nakuru to Nairobi. I was not successful; I was told that I could only book a ticket to Mombasa.

Apparently, I could not book a ticket to a destination in between the route to which the bus was operating on.

Nevertheless, I have several images that can give you a glimpse of what to expect once on board. Here is an image of the interior of the bus.

The seats look comfortable but not out of the ordinary. I got this picture of one of their buses and I was impressed.

Have a look.

Moreover, they have amenities such as high speed WiFi, Air Conditioning and power outlets. However, this is expected of a bus company of their caliber.

As for the travel experience, I have no idea. If you have ever traveled on this bus company, you can leave a comment in the comment section below detailing your experiences.

Conclusion

This bus company has been around for aver 56 years and if experience was to be measured by the number of years they have been on the road, then this company takes the lead.

If you have been on board, we would love to hear your story. Be sure we will give you all the credit and share the same to the world. If you are traveling, please be safe to your final destination.

County Codes In Kenya For The 47 Devolved Units.

0

Here are the county codes in Kenya, which came into effect with the promulgation of the new constitution.

There are 47 counties in Kenya divided into smaller units such as sub-counties, districts, Locations, Sub-locations, and Villages.

A governor, who leads the devolved government in the county, heads the government business.

We will shortly be listing all the governors shortly.

It is not clear how these counties were assigned the codes, but to many, these are just numbers that may help in government business.

However, a closer look at the numbers reveal a pattern. Counties in the former Coast Province came first, then those in North Eastern, followed by those in Eastern, then came in those from Rift Valley, Western and Nyanza. Nairobi came in last.

Therefore, whether you are doing business with the county governments or for your own personal use, here are the county codes in Kenya.

Buy and Sell domains

Domain buying and selling is a big business. You may be wondering how. The best domains, usually only one word are not available yet people are still looking for them. You can be a broker buying such domains and selling them at a profit.

I once bought a domain at US$ 500 and sold it at US$ 1500. I need not tell you how much I made. The downside of this is that you have to have substantial capital to get things rolling.

Become a tutor

Tutoring can bring you lots of money. There are so many tutoring job offers I get online to an extent that I decline most of them. All you need to do is sign up on websites such as Kenyaplex as a tutor and wait for job offers.

What you need to know about loan apps in Kenya

Getting cheap credit facilities is everyones dream. That is exactly what loans apps in Kenya do. I at least know someone who has taken a loan from these apps.

I must admit that I have more than once sought there services. From my experience, here are a must know things about these apps.

Easy to get loans

Unlike traditional banks, these apps do not require guarantors or any form of collateral. There is no paperwork. All you have to do is download the app, fill in some information and your loan is ready. This could take as little as 2 minutes.

This makes them popular with Kenyans who can get loans easily to sort out issues that are pressing them

Your information if not private.

One of the things loan apps will require of you is to allow them access your information. You may not believe me but these apps access your messages, your contacts list, your call lists, your position via GPS and very other confidential information.

While this is important to determine the your credit score, these apps put your confidential information at risk of being stolen

To make matters worse, some of this information is stored in servers abroad. This make your information easy to steal by spammers and identity thieves.

Moreover, these apps can actually call or send messages people in your contact list in case you default.

Those most of these conditions are in their terms and conditions, most of us are blinded by the loan we are looking for versus the risks involved.

They are not regulated

Unlike banks, loan apps in Kenya are not regulated. This means that should there be a dispute between you and them, you are on your own.

The Central Bank of Kenya governor recently warned that there are no laws governing these apps. In fact, he compared them to shylocks.

This means that should anything go wrong, you carry the whole burden alone.

Have very high interest rates

You will see an app offering an interest rate of 7.5%. Though in itself it does not look expensive, what most users do not know is that this is usually the rate per month. That means in excess of 40% per year, making them among the most expensive loans in Kenya.

In addition, there are application fees, beside penalties for late payments.

By the way, most of these loans are payable within a month of borrowing.

You can easily get into debt.

Because you can get a loan in a matter of minutes, it is common for people to borrow on multiples apps and fail to pay.

If you are unable to pay, they get you into debt.

I know individuals borrowing a loan from one app to pay another loan on a different app.

Failing to pay means, you are listed with CBR.

Since there no guarantors or any collateral, failing to pay means you are listed on the Credit Reference Bureau( CBR).

If you are listed on CBR, you cannot get any credit services from financial institutions in the country unless you clear you name. This means paying all loans due.

Conclusion

There are usually very few requirements to get loans in these loan apps in Kenya. In most cases all you need is

However as I have said, you need to careful using this unauthorized loan app in Kenya.

Cost of Starting a Blog in Kenya Revealed

0

A friend of mine inquired of me what the cost of starting a blog in Kenya was. I quickly understood his predicament.

I was at the same place several years ago when I decided to start this blog. It could be that you are having the same question.

I will answer the question using two ways we can look at it. However even before we look at this, the cost starting a blog in Kenya depends on

  • Cost of domain
  • Hosting
  • Website design
  • Theme

However, it would be unfair to leave you here. Therefore, what I am going to do is to let you walk with me as we explore this topic together.

Now, if you have decided to start a blog, you have two options here.

One is to pay a web designer to do it for you. Second, is to build it yourself. Either way, there is a cost involved.

Cost of starting a blog in Kenya: Two Ways to Do it.

1. Pay a web designer.

If you have money and do not have time to sit down and build a blog, you can pay someone to do it for you. In Kenya, there are many companies that offer these services at a fee.

And a good website or blog cost anything above Ksh. 5000.00. I have been doing research on this topic and found out that the average price of building a website in Kenya is about Ksh. 15000.00.

Some website developers will charges you Ksh.20000.00. Nevertheless, all this depends on the functionality of the blog or website you want to set up.

I have seen clients asked to pay as much Ksh. 100000.00 for an E-Commerce site.

If you are going to choose this method, then be sure to have anything between Ksh.5000.00 to Ksh.100000.00.

Once you have paid, the designer with consultation with you will set up everything for you and deliver your blog or website in 3 days or more.

However, there are disadvantages of using this route; here are four things website designers in Kenya will not tell you.

2. Build the blog yourself

Yeah I love the idea of building a blog by yourself. Why? Because you begin learning how to maintain your blog.

I always repeat this, that learning how to start a blog in your own puts you in the driver’s seat. Besides, you can easily control the cost of starting such a blog in Kenya.

I am going to take you the same steps I took to set up this blog and the cost I inquired. Thereafter we will add up and see how much it cost me.

To cost of starting a blog will require the following;

Domain Name( Mandatory)

A domain is what gives your blog its address on the World Wide Web. Domain names usually begin with www. …..or http://www….

For example, this site domain name is http://shopinkenya.com

Registering a domain name is straightforward process. However, you may need to take more time to get the best name.

Once you done you have it, you can register here locally or abroad. I would prefer you use a host such as Bluehost, Hostgator or Siteground.

Domain names cost as cheap as US$0.01 to US$ 20.00 per year. In fact, some hosting companies give you free domain names if you buy hosting.

On domain name, it could cost you nothing to US$ 20.00 at the start.

Pro Tip: One way of getting a good domain name is to try to go through dropped domain names and see if you can get what you want. Besides, an old domain can make you pages rank fast.

Hosting( Mandatory)

Hosting is extremely important for this is where you store your files online. We have many hosting companies in Kenya, but I would recommend that you go for a reputable company out there. Moreover, there are so many of them.

Hosting your blog can cost you a few shillings to thousands of shillings. Again, this depends with your needs.

If you are beginning a blog, you may not want to spend so much. So go for a cheap but reliable host. For example, blue host have plans as low as US$ 2.50 per month.

For hosting, you can spend Ksh. 500 to Ksh 50000.00

Pro Tip:  Most hosting companies are cheap when you pay for a longer period. I would advise you pay a longer period to give you more time to focus on content creation. Besides, if you are shopping around for a host, some may offer you a domain for free.

Theme ( Optional)

Is you are intending to use WordPress as you Content Management System, you can opt to buy a premium theme. The theme I use here cost me US$ 65.00 about Ksh. 6500.00.

Hover this is an optional cost, for there are thousands of free themes on WordPress to use. You can buy a premium them on Theme Forest if you wish to.

The cost of starting your own blog in Kenya is so small.

If you wish to start a blog on your own, he can read this complete guide.

It is more fulfilling to do it own you own.

Conclusion

Now let us do the math.

If you are paying a designer to do it for you, the average cost is Ksh. 15000.00.

If you are doing it yourself, it could cost you about Ksh. 5000.00

The cost of starting a blog in Kenya is quite affordable. Should you need a website or website to be built for you, you can hire me.
