Kenya Railways has announced an extra Madaraka Express passenger train service to cater for the high travel demand on Friday, November 14, and Saturday, November 15, 2025.
This strategic move is aimed at easing passenger congestion along the busy Nairobi-Mombasa Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) route, especially as holidaymakers and business travelers seek comfortable and efficient intercity transport options.
The newly scheduled Madaraka Express trains will operate as follows:
These schedules have been introduced to accommodate the increased passenger demand and help Kenyans travel seamlessly across the major transport corridor.
Passengers can conveniently book tickets for these additional Madaraka Express services through three channels:
Tickets can be purchased up to 60 days in advance, and the system supports bookings for up to 10 passengers per transaction.
Passengers are advised to arrive at the station at least one hour before departure, as boarding closes 11 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
To ensure safety and compliance:
The Nairobi-Mombasa SGR has become the backbone of intercity travel since its inception. Kenya Railways is responding to a surge in demand, especially during peak periods when premium-class tickets are booked out months in advance.
By adding extra trains, Kenya Railways affirms its commitment to customer convenience and adapting to Kenya’s growing travel needs.
