Naivas Occupies Shoprite’s Space at Waterfront Mall Karen

0

Naivas Supermarket will be taking up space left by South African Supermarket chain Shoprite at the Waterfront Mall Karen. This will be its 66th branch as it takes advantage of the turmoil in the supermarket retail sector.

A statement by the supermarket to the media, says that the new ‘store will help create more than 100 jobs, at a time when many people have lost their jobs owing to the departure of Shoprite’.

They added that “The new store will offer 120 jobs directly and twice the number to third-party partners. Pointing to the outlet’s continued plan to promote local businesses while offering employment opportunities to Kenyans.”

“We are delighted at the prospect of opening our 66th store at the Waterfront Mall as it offers us an exciting opportunity to provide Karen shoppers the Naivas Foodmarket experience at their doorstep. We have not had a presence in the larger Karen area which has been a long-standing request by our shoppers, we are finally able to fulfill this with the new development,” said Naivas Chief Commercial Officer, Willy Kimani in the statement.

The move takes place at a time when Tuskys, another retailer faces a financial crisis characterized by the closing down of stores and firing of employees. Shoprite another retailer announced earlier a couple of months ago that it will be closing the remaining two stores and exit the Kenyan market. The Shoprite stores still operational are at Garden City Mall and Westgate Mall.

Naivas Supermarket says that the new store will offer shoppers the food market shopping experience with a focus on everyday fresh produce that guarantees value for money.

As other retailers in the supermarket sector close or are on the deathbed, Naivas Supermarket continues to grow in strides. Nakumatt, Uchumi, Jack and Jill, and Tuskys are Supermarkets that have closed recently in Kenya or facing serious financial strain.

Why I Use Money Markets To Save

0

Saving in Money Markets: In this article, Joy Mathenge an event manager speaks of how she began her events planning business, what the Coronavirus pandemic taught her, and why she prefers to save her money in the money markets.

The words after this paragraph are her own. Please read on.

My entrepreneurial journey started by chance. I was the sole planner of my wedding back in 2018. After posting a few photos of it on social media, I got so many inquiries on which company had panned the wedding. I actualized the idea. Most connections I have today were established at the time of my wedding.

Building a business idea is like raising a child. You need patience, knowledge, and a good understanding of what you are doing. You need a lot of lasting and meaningful relationships with your clients.

Passion for what I do has been my greatest motivator. Seeing satisfied customers has always led me to be more innovative in my service delivery. This has in turn to lead to greater customer loyalty. I have also found out that honesty is the best policy. It is always important to explore all possibilities, but always be honest to your capability. There are many who promise heaven and deliver hell, all for the chase of money.

Before the pandemic hit, things were moving and business was thriving. There was a steady stream of revenue from the business. After the pandemic hit, things came to a halt with last-minute cancellations and plan changes that drastically affected our revenue stream. This has been our most challenging period especially because it is beyond anyone’s control. But I have learned to always ready to adjust.

Always diversify in business. Invest in opportunities that will generate revenue in and out of season. This, if one of the business ventures fails, there is still revenue from other ventures. I do not regret my past, but I feel I should have invested more time learning more about event planning.

Saving in Money Markets

Money comes and goes, what lasts is what you do with it. I have been saving using the money markets. With money markets, your principal grows reasonably over time and the level of risk is inadequately spread.

Life is a journey and the span of it is taken one step at a time. Keep a steady footing in life and success, however small, is sure to come. Do what you love. Be passionate about your business, be innovative, be courageous enough to fail, but not once, but each time you do, get up, learn, and bounce back. The common saying that Rome was not built in a day still holds true.

Joy Mathenge is the founder and CEO at Style Savvy Events Planner Kenya, an events planning firm in Nairobi.

This article first featured in the S Mag Magazine, a publication of the Saturday Nation.

Tocoma Sets First Shop in Kenya At Two Rivers Mall

0

Tocoma, an award-winning coffee shop from Ethiopia, has set up its first Shop at Two rivers mall, Nairobi, under the Tacoma Coffee Kenya Ltd.

Speaking to the Media, Wondwossen Meshasha-CGOO- Chief Global operations Officer said,  “This is the first venture for Tomoca within Africa. We chose Kenya as our first gateway for Africa-based expansion due to many benefits Kenya provides to the private sector in terms of investment incentive and other critical aspects that are needed for startup businesses to flourish.”

Tocoma is famed worldwide where it is known for its culture of blending the Ethiopian coffee-making technique with that from Italy. Form these, they have been able to make world-renowned drinks such as Sprice, Cravate, and Macchiato coffees.

Tocoma, which stands for Torrefazione Moderna café in Italian, and which means modern coffee roasting, prides itself on being a pioneer for change and disrupting the status quo based on the origin of coffee and the ripple effect it had from home use to commercialization.

Blending Coffees by Tocoma

At its shop, Tomoca plans to create beverage blends with Kenyan, Rwandese, and Ethiopian top-quality coffees.

You can catch this magic at the shop in the early hours, as the master roaster freshly roasts and packs coffee beans. The coffee aroma is an experience you will not forget.

Tocoma began as a family-owned business, which indulged itself in roasting coffee in the Ethiopian way. Today it is known for selling quality roasted and ground coffee to local and international markets.

A member of the Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) exports its coffee to worldwide destinations such as Japan, Germany, Sweden, the USA, and China among others.
