This article discusses the top 10 performing airlines in Africa as of the year 2022. Africa is slowly catching up with other countries of the world in terms of air travel which is common place in this nations. Most developed countries in Africa such as Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Egypt and Morocco have seen increased traffic as people embrace air travel as their preferred means of travel.

And just like the rest of the world, destinations are just a ticket away and business and leisure has not been the same again. Africa is not being left behind and as such they are working hard to ensure that they have their share of the cake.

It is important to note that Skytrax World Airline is organization that has evaluates airlines in the world and ranks them according to how well these airlines are operating. Currently, it is the world’s largest passenger satisfaction survey which bases its survey on value for money metric system.

13.5 million eligible survey entries were counted in the final result, from which airline all over the world were ranked from the best to the least favored airlines in the world.  

The top 10 performing airlines in Africa

We are going to rank these airlines from the 10th position all the way to the 1st position. Here we go

10. Air Seychelles

Air Seychelles is the national carrier of Seychelles which has its main hub at the Seychelles international Airport.

9.Fastjet

Fastjet operates primarily from Zimbabwe and it is a subsidiary of the Fastjet UK. It is an airline that provides low cost travel in Zimbabwe even as the country face serious economic times.

8. Safair

Safair is a South Africa based airline and which made it to the top 10 performing airlines in Africa. The airline was purchased from a South African Shipping company called Safmarine.

7. Rwandair

This is the national carrier of Rwanda, and based in Kigali Rwanda. The company which is 49% owned by Emirates operates mainly within the East African Community.

6. Egypt Air

This is a company owned by the government of Egypt. The airline flies to over 70 destinations all over the world, 19 of which are to African destinations.

5. Air Mauritius

Air Mauritius is the national carrier of Mauritius. The airline entered service due to restrictions on citizens of Mauritius by other nations.  

4. Kenya Airways

Kenya Airways is the national carrier of Kenya based at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi. In the recent past, it has been making loses only surviving due to the government bailouts.

3. South African Airways

This the national carrier of South Africa. The airline emerged as the third best performing in Africa. It serves many destinations around the world.

2. Royal Air Maroc

Fondly referred to as RAM, Royal Air Maroc is the largest airline in Morocco and North Africa as a whole. The airline has committed to talking fans from North Africa countries to the world cup being held in Qatar.

1. Ethiopian

Ethiopian Airline has been the best performing airline in Africa and it is not by fluke that in emerged as the best in Africa. The airline is owned by the government of Ethiopia and has stakes in so many other African airlines. It operates from Bole international airport.
