StarTimes ON app launches on Hisense Smart TVs

WarnerMedia has a long-standing relationship with StarTimes with the broadcaster already distributing TOONAMI, the go-to destination for action and animation movie enthusiasts of all ages. The new TNT deal will further diversify its channel offering giving StarTimes’ viewers access to the high-quality blockbuster movie channel offering. Speaking on the introduction of the new channel, StarTimes regional marketing director Mr. Aldrine Nsubuga noted that the launch of TNT on StarTimes demonstrates the brand’s unremitting commitment to deliver premium content to Kenyan subscribers, making top family entertainment accessible to more households across its subscriber base. “Having TNT on board for our subscribers intensifies our progressive efforts to bolster our content offering for the whole family entertainment as we seek to grow the value of our bouquet offering to subscribers across the country,” said Mr. Nsubuga. As part of the launch, TNT has an exciting line-up of never-before-seen titles with the premiere of its latest TNT Original Movie, Human Capital; a Fan Month block dedicated to the best titles of Denzel Washington (Remember the Titans, Déjà vu, The Hurricane and Fallen); and the reoccurring Film Fight stunt, where in September, an original movie will be faced against one of its sequels, every Friday evening, in a double feature, bringing up sagas such as The Transporter, National Treasure, Karate Kid, and Free Willy. Nairobi, 29th June 2021. StarTimes and VIDAA are delighted to announce that streaming application StarTimes ON will now be available on VIDAA-powered Hisense smart TVs.

StarTimes ON is a mobile application by Africa’s leading digital TV operator StarTimes. It combines live TV channels and rich Video On Demand (VOD) content to offer a premium user experience. StarTimes ON serves 27 million users and ranks among top 5 entertainment apps in many territories on the continent.

A Linux-based open smart TV operating system, VIDAA is currently used on Hisense TVs. Established in 2014; it has – in just six years – become a strong global contender in the smart TV platform space. In 2020, VIDAA introduced a completely new and revamped user interface named 4.0 which puts users and their way of consuming content at the core of the design. VIDAA is preinstalled on new Hisense TVs as well as Toshiba Smart TVs manufactured by Hisense. 

While making the announcement, StarTimes Regional Marketing Director Mr. Aldrine Nsubuga noted that the online mobile application will continue to offer more than 150 local and international channels and 20,000 hours of on-demand programs covering religion, movies, TV series, news, kids’ shows, music, documentaries, and sports including the ongoing Euro 2020 and other European football competitions such as La Liga and FA Cup.

Launching StarTimes ON on VIDAA-powered Hisense devices gives users an additional platform to enjoy StarTimes ON’s rich content portfolio that will lead to an unprecedented television experience. StarTimes ON streams content in various languages including English, French, Portuguese, Swahili, Hausa, Hindi, Yoruba, and Chinese where users accessing the premium content on the platform enjoy Standard Definition (SD), High Definition (HD) and Ultra High Definition (UHD) content providing access to live, replays and key highlights of the premium content at subscriber’s convenience.

Subscribers are also able to link their set top boxes to the application providing access to an electronic wallet that will facilitates subscription payment through either Co-operative, KCB bank, Equitel, Mpesa or Airtel money. Subscribers who recharge their accounts through the online application enjoy a 5% discount from their monthly subscription fee as well as other self-service options including change of bouquets and a review of their payment history for the pay television service.

With its user-friendly design, the App streams content under 2G/ 3G or 4G networks with less data consumption of up to 30%.
